REQUIREMENTS: What do I need for a notarization?

You will need a state-issued ID with a photo, like a driver's license or passport. Depending on the document, you may also need 1 or 2 witnesses.

*CERTIFIDE COPIES: Can I get a certified copy of my birth certificate, a death certificate or marriage certificate?

As a Florida notary, I must inform you that a notary is not authorized to certify a copy of a birth certificate Death Certificate or Marriage Certificate. Those are considered vital records, which are public records maintained by government agencies. Only the issuing government agency has the authority to certify these documents. If you need a certified copy, I recommend contacting the appropriate agency for assistance.

NOTARY WITNESS: Can a notary public also be a witness to a document?

A notary can sign as a witness to a document, but they cannot also be the notary for the same document. 

WHO CAN BE A WITNESS?: Who can be a witness to my document?

In Florida, a witness must be a legal adult who is of sound mind and not involved in the transaction. They need to be present to the signing or availalbe via video and audio for remote notarization. They cannot be the beneficiary or immediate family members of the tesator for a will. They cannot have a financial interest or a party to a deed.
